Bonava has a long and interesting history. It was founded in 1964 as the State held company Industriebau Fürstenwalde which was responsible for numerous major construction projects in the former GDR .

Shortly after reunification, the company was taken over by Siab a Swedish construction company and from that time on, the focus has been residential development

The company now has branches in ten other European cities.
